Appleton’s parks and recreation department is holding a challenge to encourage people to get outside this month.
It’s called “Going the Social Distance,” and finishers have to complete 50 kilometers during May.
Recreation Manager Niki Wendt says the kilometers convert to 31 miles, and it works out perfectly with 31 days in the month.
She says people can walk the dog, run, bike, or rollerblade. They need to register on the city’s website and keep a log of their activities.
Participants will get a medal, if they complete the 50K. It will be mailed to them.
Wendt says people don’t have to live in Appleton to participate — they can be in the surrounding communities as well.
