Volunteers are putting out flags at the graves of veterans at Appleton’s Riverside Cemetery this week.
Administrator Debbie DeBruin says they felt it was important to continue the tradition, even though others aren’t because of health concerns. She says volunteers are wearing protective equipment, and social distancing.
She says about 16 people will place flags at around 1,700 graves over the next three days.
The Veterans Administration is banning groups like the Boy Scouts from placing flags at grave sites in federal cemeteries this year.
Riverside is a nonprofit cemetery.
