Green Bay will have a curfew in place tonight, after protests turned violent late last night.
It starts at 9 p.m. and runs until 6 a.m. the next day. Mayor Eric Genrich is extending it through Wednesday morning.
Police say the rules are only for people gathering in large groups, and officers will take action against anyone, regardless of their age.
The department recommends people stay at home after 9 p.m. unless they’re working, or taking part in lawful activity. They say drivers won’t be pulled over, unless they’re doing something illegal.
Ashwabenon and Bellevue are also implementing the same curfew as Green Bay, covering the same hours.
Police Chief Andrew Smith credited the early protesters for being peaceful during their march through parts of the city yesterday. But he says things took a turn later, and police are working to track down suspects.
Smith warned if you’re sitting at home with a smug look on your face, thinking they got away with something, don’t be so smug if officers knock on your door to arrest you.
Smith says someone started shooting into a Marathon gas station, at Walnut Street and Monroe Avenue, in the downtown while others were looting the business. He says they have video of the shooting suspect.
He reports some officers had rocks thrown at them.
