Kaukauna will soon be able to offer loans to replace lead pipes between streets and homes.
The state created the program, and Kaukauna Utilities hopes there will be about 50 projects a year.
Around 24 percent of customers have a lead pipe connected to their house.
Utilities General Manager Jeff Feldt says the loans should build on a step the city took in 2011 to require homeowners to replace their lead pipe.
He says the project typically costs around $2,000. Homeowners can get a 10-year loan.
