Democrats in Congress are working on changes to policing throughout the U.S.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin of Madison says the public safety presence shouldn’t change. But she does think it’s healthy to take a close look at the current system, and see if there’s a better way to promote safety in communities.
Baldwin says officers sometimes have to become mental health counselors and social workers. She believes that should be handled by other professionals, by investing in those areas.
The bill would also set up a nationwide database to track police officers fired for misconduct.
