Construction is underway on a new fire station in Freedom.
Chief Mark Green says first responders will also be in the approximately 16,000 square foot building. He says work started weeks ago, but they delayed the formal groundbreaking ceremony, until yesterday.
Green says they’ve been working on the plans for about six years, and they’re scheduled to move in by the start of next year.
The current fire station is part of the town hall complex in the downtown.
The new building is on the corner of Highway E and Schmidt Road. It will cost about $3.9 million.
