Appleton’s city council president says he’s getting a lot of questions and complaints about a letter sent to homeowners by an insurance company.
A private company is offering policies covering outside water and sewer service lines that run from a house to the street. If there’s a problem with them, homeowners have to pay to fix or replace them.
Ald. Kyle Lobner says the letters use the city logo and are signed “The City of Appleton,” and the company had permission to do that.
He’s urging people to reach out to their homeowners insurance provider, and other local companies, to get quotes.
Lobner says he’s working with city staff to avoid confusing situations in the future.
