The head of the state’s Department of Workforce Development hopes the federal government will extend extra unemployment benefits beyond the end of this month.
The additional $600 a week payment expires the last week of July.
Secretary Caleb Frostman says many people have come to rely on it. He says 12 percent of the state’s workforce is using the money to pay their bills, and it would be much more difficult with the state’s maximum of $370 a week.
Democrats in Congress support plans to extend the unemployment bonus, but the Trump administration has been opposed.
