Lawrence University is taking steps to make the campus more energy efficient.
The school is working with Johnson Controls to install LED lighting in 17 buildings, and make heating and cooling upgrades to lower utility costs.
Vice President of Finance Jenna Stone says they signed a unique, $5.5 million, 20-year contract with Johnson Controls. She says Lawrence won’t have to pay any up-front costs. They’ll give the company the money they’ll save on utility bills, to pay for the project.
The work is expected to cut energy use on campus by more than 20 percent.
