Appleton leaders are taking the formal step of approving a grant to help convert a trestle bridge into a trail.
The David and Rita Nelson Family Fund is donating $500,000 toward the project. The city council officially accepted the money last night.
The bridge runs between Pullman’s and the Atlas mill building.
Curt Detjen is the president of the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, and he says it’s an important link for the entire trail system.
The bridge will be named after the Nelson family.
Construction is expected to start next year, and it will be done in 2022.
