Brillion’s police department isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon.
The city council and mayor wanted to see what it would cost to have the Calumet County Sheriff’s Department cover the town. But Mayor Mel Edinger says they can’t do that until at least 2022, because of the police union contract and some state rules.
Some in the community put out yard signs, backing the city’s police officers.
Chief Kirk Schend says they were thrilled to receive support from around the city and the whole area.
The police department’s budget is about $1 million.
Edinger wanted to see if they could save money, heading into what he expects will be a tough budget year.
