There’s going to be a debate on masks in Green Bay tonight.
The city council is taking up a proposed emergency order from Mayor Eric Genrich. People would have to wear masks in any building that’s open to the public.
Genrich says he’s following the recommendations of local health providers.
Prevea Health President, Dr. Ashok Rai says they’ve learned more about the effectiveness of masks, over the past several months.
He compares it to bans on smoking inside buildings. Rai says years ago, people were able to smoke cigarettes inside buildings, and that changed after more research into the impact of second-hand smoke.
The City of Oshkosh is urging people to wear masks.
Mayor Lori Palmeri’s official proclamation encouraging them isn’t a requirement. She also wants people to respect anyone wearing a mask.
