Appleton’s leader is urging people to wear masks in public, but he’s not pushing for a requirement in the city.
Mayor Jake Woodford is issuing a proclamation, and he hopes people will come together to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Woodford believes the debate over local mask rules is distracting from the point that face coverings do help prevent the spread of COVID-19. He says people need a common strategy to deal with the virus. He says covering noses and mouths, and physical distancing are the key parts to that strategy.
Woodford says they need a coordinated, statewide effort to attack the virus. He says local leaders are in a difficult position, because Governor Evers and Majority Republicans in the Legislature are refusing to work together on that.
