Governor Evers is issuing a statewide mask order that starts Saturday.
Anyone five or older will have to wear a face covering when they’re inside a building with someone they don’t live with. It doesn’t include private homes.
Evers says public health experts are reporting that masks can save lives. He says he understands emotions are high when it comes to wearing face coverings in public, but everyone is in a battle against the virus, and not against each other.
The requirement currently will be in place until September 28th.
The governor is also declaring a second state public health emergency. He says there’s a surge in new cases across Wisconsin, and the situation is completely different than a few months ago.
Thirty-one other states in the U.S. currently have mask rules in place.
