The victims of a reported contractor scam in Brown County are coming forward, because they don’t want others to suffer the same fate.
Don and Gail Kowaleski had a man show up at their door last month, offering to reseal their asphalt driveway for $600. They say the scammer started working, and then demanded more than $10,000 to finish.
The Kowaleskis paid him $3,000 and they say the man left, and didn’t come back to finish.
Gail blames herself for not recognizing the scheme. She says she’s worked with criminals for nearly 40 years, and she thought she knew the gimmicks. Gail admits she “got buffaloed.”
Mico Miller was arrested a few days later. Investigators believe he may have scammed elderly homeowners in as many as 16 counties around Wisconsin this summer.
