The public health officer for Appleton says it’s hard to predict how the COVID-19 case totals will look, now that the statewide mask order has been in place for nearly two weeks.
Kurt Eggebrecht believes it could take four weeks to see the impact because someone might not show symptoms of the virus for 14 days. He says the science is clear that masking helps, and he’s hoping they’ll see a dramatic decrease in numbers. But he adds social distancing is also important, and it’s not a case where one thing replaces the other.
Eggebrecht says there are also other factors that can influence case totals, including whether people are always wearing masks when they should. He says more businesses are reopening, so more people are having contact with others from outside of their home.
