A woman is crying foul over a bill from the Village of Ashwaubenon for a protest she organized last month.
Hannah Lundin of De Pere is being asked to pay more than $750.
There’s an online petition, calling on the village to drop the bill for what was a march against police brutality. Lundeen says the response is exactly what she’s looking for, because it shows a lot of people agree. She hopes the village will change its mind.
Village officials say police had to direct traffic and bring in officers from other communities. They also say the protesters marched through major streets like Oneida and Lombardi Avenue, even though they were warned they’d need a special event permit to leave the sidewalk.
Lundin expects to go to court over the bill, and she has no intention of paying it.
