The Department of Justice is releasing more information and the names of the police officers who were on the scene when Jacob Blake was shot on Sunday in Kenosha.
The DOJ says Officer Vincent Arenas and Officer Brittany Meronek were on the scene that day. Arenas has been with the Kenosha Police Department since February 2019. Meronek joined the department in January.
The DOJ previously identified Officer Rusten Sheskey as the officer who shot Blake. Officials say Sheskey used a taser on Blake in an attempt to arrest him, but it didn’t stop Blake from walking away. The department says Arenas then deployed his taser and that also did not stop Blake.
Kenosha’s police chief, sheriff and mayor are expected to hold a news conference today at 1 p.m.
