Appleton city staff heard some complaints and concerns over the weekend, because city water had a chlorine smell or taste.
Utilities Director Chris Shaw says the issue was on the south side, and it happened on Saturday. He stresses the water was safe.
Shaw says strong winds pushed algae toward the city’s intake pipes on Lake Winnebago. He says they needed to add the chlorine to treat and remove those contaminants. He reports chlorine stays in the water longer, when temperatures are cooler.
