With more people working from home, and fewer people coming to downtown Appleton, the city’s parking revenues are taking a big hit.
Through the end of August, they were down nearly $2 million from what was budgeted.
Public Works Director Paula Vandehey says they decided to delay some projects, to help cut expenses by about $500,000. She says the city was planning to replace the elevator at the Red Ramp, and put in new LED lights in the Green Ramp.
Revenues for the ramps are down nearly $870,000. The money collected from fines is about $250,000 lower than expected.
The parking utility doesn’t receive any money from property taxes, and it has to be self-sustaining.
