Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson is running for the U.S. Senate in 2022.
This week, Nelson filed his statement of candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission as a Democrat. Nelson served six years in the state Assembly before making an unsuccessful run for Lieutenant Governor in 2010.
He’s been County Executive since 2011. Nelson also ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2016.
Incumbent Senator Ron Johnson had indicated in 2016 that he would not seek a third term and has not announced any plans to run for re-election.
