The life of the offbeat but visionary rocker Frank Zappa will be the topic of a documentary coming out in late November. Zappa will examine the life of the artist who’s path to stardom with his group – The Mothers of Invention – was anything but conventional.
The career of Frank Zappa spanned mainly from the mid-Sixties into the Eighties and although commercial success had escaped Zappa (he only had one song enter the Billboard Top 40 in his career with “Valley Girl” in 1982), his influence is widely recognized throughout the industry. WAPL played a number of newly-released Zappa tracks from 1979 to 1982 including “Valley Girl”, “Dancing Fool” and the oft-requested “Joe’s Garage” among others.
The documentary promises a comprehensive story culled from interviews with those close to Zappa personally and musically as well as countless hours of unseen footage from the Zappa estate. Zappa is expected in theaters on November 23rd and on Apple TV on November 27th.
