A Hobart family is trying to recover after a barn fire last week that claimed the lives of about 80 young dairy calves.
Daniel Diederich is thankful for the person driving by, repeatedly honking a horn. He was inside his house at the time, went to the window, saw the fire and ran outside to try and save the calves.
The fire destroyed four barns and Diederich says a piece of family history. One barn was built in 1913 and Diederich recalls letters from great aunts and great uncles with stories about how they played in the barn as children.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family.
