“Feck.”
Some American fans of the British television show Derry Girls may be uttering that word after finding out that the UK’s Channel 4 has pushed back the third season to 2022… which means that it may not air in the United States until much longer after that. The network told The Irish News that the pandemic was a factor in the delay.
Derry Girls – a comedy set in 90’s Northern Ireland (specifically, Londonderry) during the Irish Republican Army conflict – has gained a cult following in the U.S. thanks to the Netflix streaming service which has been carrying the first two seasons. The second season ended on Netflix at the end of 2019.
Normally, shows originating outside the United States are available to U.S. audiences sometime after the end of their initial run depending on distribution agreements. American fans of the show can satiate their Derry Girls fix by watching a special episode of The Great Festive Baking Show, also available on Netflix. Also, Nicola Coughlan (who plays “Clare”) currently appears in the show Bridgerton (also on Netflix).
