D-N-R Sturgeon Biologist Ryan Koenigs is facing more criminal charges in connection with an alleged egg processing scheme. Winnebago County prosecutors have filed one count of misdemeanor theft against Koenigs. He was already facing an obstruction of a warden charge in Calumet County for allegedly lying about his knowledge of D-N-R employees telling spearers they were collecting sturgeon eggs for research–but then providing them to processors to make caviar. Three Fond du Lac County residents also have been charged with illegal sale of wild game as part of the alleged scheme. The theft charge against Koenigs carries a jail term of up to nine months.
