The Flintstones franchise will be resurrected on FOX Television on a show called Bedrock. The show will center around Pebbles Flintstone, the now-adult daughter of Fred and Wilma Flintstone who debuted in the original animated series which started in 1960 and ran for six seasons. The character of Pebbles first appeared on the original show in the episode “The Blessed Event” which aired February 22nd, 1963.
According to FOX, Bedrock will be set approximately twenty years after the original series as a twenty-something Pebbles starts her own career and Fred is set to retire. The show will draw from history as the “Stone Age” moves into the “Bronze Age” and how this evolution affects the characters.
Similarly, Bedrock will be the next step in the evolution of the character of Pebbles as well. The infant Pebbles first appeared in Season Three of the original show. There was also a teenage version of the character which appeared on The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show for twenty episodes in 1971 and 1972. The two were married in the animated film The Flintstones: I Yabba-Dabba Do! and had their own child together in The Flintstones: HollyRock-A-Bye Baby (both released in 1993). Speaking of Bamm-Bamm (Betty and Barney’s son who also debuted in the original show), although the character has not yet been confirmed for Bedrock, it is assumed that the character will be appearing on the show given his attachment to Pebbles over the years.
