The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced their 2021 inductees Wednesday morning and they include a few artists familiar to WAPL listeners, including Foo Fighters and guitarist Randy Rhoads who will receive a Musical Excellence Award. Foo Fighters finished 5th in fan voting (Tina Turner garnered the most votes) and with the band’s honor, Dave Grohl becomes a two-time inductee (the first time with Nirvana). The full list of inductees include the following…
Foo Fighters got their start in 1995 with their self-titled debut album. The band members to be inducted include Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Rami Jaffee, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear . Smear had been a member of punk band The Germs and previously worked with Grohl, appearing with Nirvana during their MTV Unplugged special in 1993.
Randy Rhoads was a founding member of Quiet Riot but was better known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne. Rhoads appeared on Osbourne’s first two solo albums and is considered one of rock’s most influential guitarists. He died in a plane crash in 1982 at age 25.
The 2021 nominees were announced in February and included Iron Maiden (who finished 4th in fan voting). This year’s induction ceremony will happen in Cleveland on October 30th.
