Neenah’s mayor thinks Clearwater Paper is firm in their decision to close the plant down.
Mayor Dean Kaufert says he had a lengthy discussion with company officials and they say the decision is purely economic. He says there is some good news for the nearly 300 hundred workers who will be out of a job. Today, he received calls from paper plants in Arizona and Greenville, South Carolina looking to hire. Kaufert thinks there’s also a lot of local companies looking for qualified workers.
Kaufert doesn’t feel the state has interest in trying to entice the company to stay. He’s doesn’t think that would make a difference in the company’s decision. Clearwater Paper announced earlier this month the plant would shut down.
