Door County officials are trying to determine how an emergency alert was sent out to the cellphones of some residents. The message claimed that there was a “critical incident in their neighborhood” and that they should shelter in place. The message was not sent from Door County Emergency Management or any local law enforcement agencies. It resulted in a flood of calls to 9-1-1 dispatchers demanding to know the nature of the emergency.
