“Punk loving ducks,” that’s not probably something you expected to say or hear, but yet here we are. On the gravesite for Ramones bassist, Dee Dee Ramone ducks get together to eat and listen to punk rock. What started out as just five ducks all named after the members of the Ramones and the other named of course Sheena after the song “Sheena is a Punk Rocker.”
Coyote Shivers (who played Berko in the film Empire Records) and his partner Pleasant Gehman “inherited” five ducks from a friend, The pair decided to feed the ducks at Dee Dee’s tombstone using a “dinner bell” dubbed “Duckskrieg Bop” to lure the ducks. It worked like a charm, and the ducks have become daily visitors. Now they have friends as more have shown up and so have even some geese.
Shivers explained: “Everything was closed, even the beaches and parks, the streets were full of riots and boarded up windows, and so we would go to the cemetery to get away from the negativity, and feel some air and beauty and care for some of the urban wildlife that live there: ducks, geese, feral cats, squirrels, doves, swans, etc.”
