Appleton, WI native Willem Dafoe hosted Saturday Night Live this past weekend and soon found out no matter how far you think you are away from home, sometimes home is just around the corner… or sitting in the audience.
As Dafoe references, winters as a kid growing up in Appleton, Wisconsin, a couple in the audience (played by cast members Aidy Bryant and Beck Bennett) pipes up and proclaims their geographical similarities with Dafoe and wonders if he still has a Wisconsin accent.
He obliges by saying, “Hey you guys! Let’s go down to Krambo’s and get a drink from the bubbler!”
Which confused many from Appleton to what actually “Krambos” was though.
So we (Hayley Tenpas /WHBY News/Focus Fox Valley) checked in with the Appleton Historical Society and found that Krambo was a grocery store (started by the Kramlich family) that had four locations in Appleton and one in Neenah.
Apparently, a Dirty Snowball reference from Cleo’s would have been chronologically past Mr. Dafoe’s time in Appleton.

In the picture, Krambo is located on the south side of College next to Lawrence University.
This is one of four locations Krambo had in Appleton at the time.
