(APPLETON, WI)–A new survey of the “Best and Worst States for Police Officers” shows Wisconsin ranking just below the middle-of-the pack. The WalletHub survey of all 50 states and the District of Columbia places Wisconsin at number 32. The survey comes as law enforcement agencies nationwide are struggling to fill officer vacancies.
Cory McKone, Associate Dean of Public Safety at Fox Valley Technical College, says FVTC is seeing more interest in its program.
McKone also says lowering officer recruiting standards is not an acceptable way to find candidates. He says FVTC and other public safety programs are required to maintain high standards for prospective officers.
The survey ranks states according to opportunity and competition, law enforcement training requirements and job hazards and protections.
