They said ‘newly-constructed‘ NOT ‘well-constructed.’
A footbridge opened in the Mexican town of Cuernavaca, and the mayor of the town was leading a group of people across (if it was Green Bay a llama would somehow be involved) …anyhoo… it suddenly collapsed and sent the entire group plunging 10 feet into a rocky stream bed.
Remember the scene in ‘Indiana Jones and the Tempe of Doom’ where Indy is trapped on a suspension bridge and then cuts the guides to escape the Thuggee? Yeah, kinda’ like that but without a death cult in hot pursuit.
(Shocker!) The bridge was clearly not constructed to support that many people at once.
Weight limits anyone? Plus adding to the chaos, some on the people attempted to show off how well-made and structurally sound the bridge was by jumping up and down on it – thus proving gravity is still undefeated – or unde-footbridged in this case.
