A new cat-focused video game called ‘Stray’ was just released and even though I’d classify myself as a ‘dog person’ I’d could see myself jumping into this with both feet… er… all four paws.
Less first-person-shooter and more fur-person-sleuther, you play as the titular ‘Stray’ wandering in a cyberpunk, open world – imagine a ‘Blade Runner‘ type environment – where the world turns into your personal jungle gym as you stalk, slither, scoot, and slink your way around the city.
To be clear, you are just a cat not a Super-Cat, Bat-Cat or Mutant-Cat or anything like that – just a stray cat making it’s way around this part platformer / part adventure game. But that doesn’t make the story any less-compelling or fun.
You get to be a cat and simply play. Along the way you interact with the different cyber-denizens of the city that move you along the storyline in a quest to simply get home. ‘Stray’ is a mix of simple linear-platforming play and puzzles with item-hunting quests is balanced across a (roughly) five-hour story arc.
ALSO there’s a ‘MEOW‘ button that one will find hard to resist incessantly pressing and mewing your way throughout the adventure.
‘Stray’ certainly sticks the landing – with all four paws.
