During a routine colonoscopy many things can be discovered; tumors, ulcers, poo and now add ladybugs to the brown list.
Wait… Ladybugs??? Yep… Ladybugs.
In a case study authored in the ACG Case Reports Journal, a clinical team discovered the (invasive?) beetle inside (obviously) a 59-year old man during a routine colonoscopy. See below.
How? is the question you’re asking right now.
Well turns out the clinicians believe it slipped inside the man while he was sleeping (it apparently happens a lot). I’m guessing it was an oral entrance rather than the other end of the spectrum.
Anyhoo… they believe in the preparation for the procedure, the polyethylene glycol solution dislodged the (dead) ladybug from the man’s upper small intestine and after a trip down Colon Lane / Dirt Road / Hershey Highway (pick one) “TA DAH!” the bug made it’s small screen debut.
Though as one of the paper’s authors wrote there have also been several cases where cockroaches have been discovered.
Consider me ‘Team Ladybug‘ in that case.
