APPLETON, Wis–A Manitowoc man accused of killing his two children in their Kaukauna home, and then taking a jail officer hostage in an escape attempt, will be tried separately on the charges against him. An Outagamie County judge rules that the cases against Matthew Beyer occurred on different days, and therefore should be heard in different trials.
In one case, Beyer is charged with two counts of First Degree Intentional Homicide for the stabbing deaths of his two children–5-year old William, and 3-year old Danielle–in February of 2020. A trial is set for September 6th–but attorneys have requested a delay to examine additional evidence.
In the second case, Beyer is facing counts of Taking Hostages and Attempted Escape. There, Beyer allegedly pulled a weapon on a guard at the Outagamie County Jail in June of 2020 as he and another inmate attempted to escape.
