An Australian woman walking on a Queensland beach came across (phrasing) something… odd. So odd in fact that she reached out to the internet for help identifying the flaccid object. The internet, once again, did not disappoint – identifying it as a whale’s penis. Specifically a Humpback whale (not any more) – as they are known to be currently breeding in that particular area.
But now with the initial question answered, it seems there are many more to take it’s place.
Why was a severed whale’s penis just washed up on the beach?
Was it bitten off?
What creature would do this to a whale?
Was a scorned whale lover involved somehow?
Is this a marine mammal version of the John and Lorena Bobbitt saga?
Again… lots of questions.
Enter wildlife researcher Dr Vanessa Pirotta, who said scientists would be unable to confirm exactly what the object is without seeing it for themselves.
In other words, looking at it eye-to-eye.
Dr. Pirotta said in a response video, “It’s hard to know exactly what this object is without seeing it in the flesh. As a scientist we want to have as much information on the size and also how it looks from every single angle so we just don’t know at this stage.”
It has since been confirmed that it is, in fact, a Humpback whale penis. And I for one would like to express what the collective ‘we‘ of fellow penis-bearing mammals are thinking reading this story…. Sorry dude but better you than me.
