We are proud to name as this week’s Rick and Cutter show Weenie of the Week…some not yet identified jack wagon in Columbia County who stole a hunters’ FIRST buck. A 15-year-old hunter! 15-year-old Garrett Diehm shot the 22- POINT BUCK over the weekend on his family’s property near Portage.
According to Garrett, “We went up to my grandparents to show them the pictures of the buck and grab a wagon to field dress it and my ma had to go to the bathroom, and we came back, and it was gone”.
After Garrett’s mother posted about the stolen buck on social media, word quickly got around the and the Columbia County sheriff’s department got involved. The next morning, the deer’s cape and antlers were left on Garrett’s grandmother’s car, which his mom said was “really, really creepy”.
According to local authorities, the suspects has been identified and charged with theft and trespassing. The deer’s meat, which had already been taken to a local processor, was also located, and will be returned to the boy when the processing is complete. The culprit reportedly apologized to the boy and has agreed to pay for the processing.
While Garrett will eventually get everything back, the thieves have tainted his first buck experience and deprived him of the ritual of field dressing his first buck, which being a 22 pointer, could be the deer of a lifetime. Said his mother, “I was like ‘no, people don’t really do this. But apparently some people do.” Added Garrett, “People suck sometimes”.
So,
For actions that left a 15-year-old kid feeling as gutted as his first buck.
For not realizing that deer are not dollars and you can’t just pick up and keep any buck you find lying on the ground.
And for doing more to give a bad name to Hunter’s than Joe Biden’s son.
We are proud to name the 22 point pilfering Portage area buck bandit who not only stole a buck but also stole a 15-year-old kid’s experience of a lifetime as this week’s Rick and Cutter Show…WEENIE OF THE WEEK!
