Bill Mumy has had an interesting career. Billy, as he was known then, started as a child actor and is best remembered as Will Robinson on the original Lost in Space and the boy would wish people he didn’t like away into the cornfield in a particularly creepy episode of the Twilight Zone.
As he got older Billy dropped the y and turned his attention to music. He was one-half of the group Barnes and Barnes that had a cult hit with the song Fish Heads. You know the one. The song with the memorable lyrics, “Fish heads, fish heads. Roly-poly fish heads. Eat them up, Yum! (They don’t write ‘em like that anymore)
In 1994 Bill wrote an amazing Christmas song and recorded it together with a woman named Sarah Taylor. After giving the song one listen, we couldn’t wait to play it on the WAPL Morning Show. Despite it being a jazz tune, the calls and requests came a plenty. In fact, ever since then we get requests for “That dirty Santa song” every Christmas season. Even, occasionally, outside of Christmas season.
While there’s never been a quality video of the original Mumy/Taylor version available, it was recorded again in 2015 by Kassandra Carroll and the Martini Kings who made a vid as sexy (and campy) as the song itself. I just stumbled upon that version myself and felt the need to share it with all of you. Enjoy!
