TOWN OF GRAND CHUTE — The question of long-time Town Administrator James March’s future in Grand Chute remains unanswered. The town board of supervisors met in closed session for nearly two-and-a-half hours. The discussion centered on March’s performance and the special counsel’s advisement of the town’s rights and responsibilities under its contract with March. Prior to the closed session, residents in the nearly full board room gave their input. Supporters of March, including Mary Klausen, warned of adverse impacts if the town acts hastily.
“In order to keep the talented and dedicated staff, the board needs to treat the town employees with respect,” Klausen said. “They need to work with them. They can’t just decide they don’t like someone and give them the boot. All that does is make other competent staff members want to quit Grand Chute.”
Town board supporters, like Jim Reiter, say the elected leaders should be free to act in taxpayers’ best interest.
“We voted this town board in. The majority of the people in the town voted these people in,” he said. “It’s now how many years later? And they are still not allowed to do their job because the finger pointing won’t stop.”
Immediately following the closed session, the board of supervisors met briefly in open session to adjourn without taking action on the question of March’s continued employment.
