APPLETON, Wis–An effort to severely limit the use of chemical pesticides, weed killers, and fertilizers in the city of Appleton appears to be on hold. The Common Council members that introduced a resolution earlier this spring that would have allowed the spray application of those chemicals on residential lawns to just a couple of days a year have withdrawn it from consideration.
The resolution would have barred the use of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers on terrace lawns, close to lot lines, on days with more than 5-miles-an-hour winds, or temperatures above 80, or when there was any chance of rain. A memo provided to the Municipal Services Committee says the sponsors are looking to re-work the language and re-submit the resolution in the future.
