The Annual Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake is an event where people people race down an EXTREMELY steep, 200-yard-long hill . . . chasing a wheel of Double Gloucester cheese. Simple.
But in the annals of the event only one person has won the chase unconscious – that person is a 19-year-old Canadian named Delaney Irving. Irving won the women’s race, despite falling and being knocked unconscious on her way down, and rolling across the finish line.
Delaney said she didn’t realize she’d won until later, when she woke up in the medical tent.
“I remember running, then bumping my head, and then I woke up in the tent . . .
…I still don’t really believe it, but it feels great.”
So in this extreme cheese event, injuries aren’t uncommon . . . but winning it while unconscious certainly is.
🧀 Canadian 🇨🇦 Delaney Irving won’t remember much of winning the Woman’s race at #cheeserolling.

After being knocked out on her way down, she was unconscious for a period of time but told us it was all worth it.
