A Los Angeles family was doing a little spring cleaning of their parent’s house when they came across some pennies… and by ‘some pennies’ we’re talking ONE MILLION pennies. The pennies were loose in bank bags, rolled in sleeves, boxes, crates, etc. 1 million pennies is $10-thousand dollars. but now the question, What do you do with a million pennies?
The family says no bank in the area wants them and has actually WARNED them NOT to bring them in.
Coinstar machines take 8% plus that amount of pennies would obviously jam them up.
The pennies are all pre-1980 when they were all copper – so there’s value there
They also think there’s value in the collection itself with valuable pennies scattered within.
Why so many pennies? The family believes that their parents intentionally converted paychecks to copper pennies believing that the value would be worth more over time.
The family is looking to get $25-thousand for the collection and is holding firm… for now.
