The first stage diving at a rock concert is believed to have occurred in 1964 at a Rolling Stones show in the Netherlands. A few years later, the doors Jim Morrison reportedly gave it a shot at several shows.
However, it was Iggy Pop who really made it one of his signature moves. After all, when he wasn’t intentionally rolling around on a jagged glass covered stage or rubbing raw meat all over his body while singing, he had to have something to do. Why not just fling yourself into a crowd of unsuspecting, gape-mouthed onlookers and hope they catch you?
Eventually, stage diving would takeoff and become a staple of punk and heavy metal shows.
However, one thing has remained the same since its Dutch origins in 1964 through today. And that one thing is… this is NOT the way to do it!
Ouch!
What could go wrong trying to stage dive off a high platform?
