Crazy video from Lake Mendota in Madison as college kids celebrating the hot Wisconsin Labor Day weekend packed a pier the couldn’t handle all the fun.It happened Labor Day on a pier off the UW campus where the Memorial Union Terrace pier became a gathering place for 30 + people – and from the video the dock was not rated for that many humans resulting in an impromptu splash session for all.
One minute, they’re all there enjoying themselves and mingling among one another … and the next, the wooden dock crumbles.
Fortunately, nobody was seriously harmed injured despite at least 25 people reportedly sustaining minor injuries, and only one person was transported to the hospital for treatment.
An investigation is underway to figure out exactly what caused the collapse. Which shouldn’t take too long.
