To heck with snakes on a plane… mosquitos on a plane is far more terrifying…or terri-flying in this case.
We, here in Wisconsin, have to deal with the treat of mosquitos for a portion of the year – they are inevitable – but when you’re in your seat INSIDE a plane, in another country, mosquitos are the last thing you’d probably expect to have to deal with.
A flight in Mexico, from Guadalajara to Mexico City, was delayed for more than two hours on the tarmac because of a mosquito infestation on the plane. So as passengers boarded the plane, took their seats, and were waiting for take off, a huge swarm of mosquitos descended on the main cabin and began feasting on everybody. Apparently snacks and drinks were included in their tickets.
Passengers spent a couple hours swatting at the unofficial Wisconsin state bird, while crew members walked up and the aisle crop dusting the cabin and passengers with bug spray. Not really sure about that tactic… but the infestation stopped once they turned off the lights in the cabin and the flight took off. According to airline officials the airport in Guadalajara sits in an area with heavy vegetation that frequently floods which equals an ideal breeding ground for mosquitos.
