We are proud to name as this week’s Rick and Cutter Show Weenies of the Week…The Fox Valley Humane Association who have created quite a controversy by euthanizing a dog, named Duke who had been found wandering the streets of Kaukauna. The folks who found Duke cared for him for a few days while they searched for the owner. Eventually, they took Duke to the Fox Valley Humane Association because it’s is a “no kill” shelter.
The shelter scanned Duke and found he was, in fact, chipped. After attempts to contact the name connected to the chip failed, they euthanized Duke claiming he was aggressive and cited both “medical and behavioral concerns”.
However, the people who cared for Duke for a few days before taking him to the shelter say “he was good boy. Weren’t you Duke? You were a good boy” who they say was “sweet and loving” and “snuggled and gave kisses”. And the say they never would have taken him to Fox Valley Humane Association if they thought there was any chance of him being put down.
The story of Duke’s euthanization on Facebook has garnered several hundred responses and resulted in Fox Valley Humane Association saying “We are listening and will improve how we communicate with those who bring in stray dogs.”
So,
For creating a bigger stink in Kaukauna than even the paper mill.
For not realizing if we put down everything with “medical and behavioral concerns” there would be no one here to host this show.
And for creating the most controversy for killing a Duke since a Serbian revolutionary shot Franz Ferdinand in 1914.
We are proud to name the Fox Valley Humane Association (usually a great organization) as this week’s Rick and Cutter Show…Weenies of the Week!
(This seems to be an unfortunate misstep from an organization that does a lot of good and could still use your help. Please consider donating here)
