A friend recently brought to my attention a song called An Old Fashioned Christmas (Daddy’s Home), a 1975 tune by a woman named Linda Bennett. It’s insanely bad.
For many years, I was under the impression that the worst Christmas song ever recorded was The Christmas Shoes; a song so insufferably unlistenable that comic Patton Oswalt dissected it verse-by-verse on one of his comedy specials.
For the uninitiated, The Christmas Shoes is about a little boy who goes to a store to buy new shoes for his mother for Christmas because she is dying and needs to look good when she gets to heaven to meet Jesus. If that’s not bad enough, he’s a few pennies short, so the clerk, being a heartless heathen, won’t sell the shoes to the boy.
And yet, An Old Fashioned Christmas (Daddy’s Home) may actually be worse. Give it a listen. Decide for yourself.
