A new image from the floor of the Pacific Ocean may provide some answers to (if not solve) the 87-year-old disappearance of Amelia Earhart and her plane.
A South Carolina-based company called Deep Sea Vision captured a sonar image in the Pacific that they say “appears” to be Earhart’s Lockheed 10-E Electra resting about 16,000 feet deep on the ocean floor.
The hunt for the aviation legend’s plane was led by former U.S. Air Force intelligence officer Tony Romeo and was funded by Romeo selling off some $11 million of commercial real estate. Romeo’s had a fascination with finding the plane for a long time and told the Wall Street Journal, “This is maybe the most exciting thing I’ll ever do in my life. I feel like a 10-year-old going on a treasure hunt.”
