I’m sure this started out as a well-intentioned idea to bring people together but instead caused people to call 911 in a panic.
Public officials in Mesa, Arizona decided to use fake (emphasis on FAKE) foam alligators to use as landing pads for local birds and turtles in a city park. And that’s a great idea because who’d ever believe that there were actually alligators in an Arizona lake?
Turns out a lot of people did, prompting numerous calls (which you can hear in the video below) to the city’s emergency 911 service. Though alligators are native to wide swaths of the southeastern United States, their range doesn’t extend to the Arizona desert.
But instead of removing the fake alligators city official doubled down with some fake, foam hippos also because, again, who’d believe that?
